Big changes are in the works for housing in the Southeast Austin area. Benchmark Development recently broke ground on brand new homes in the master-planned community named Goodnight. Situated on about 700 acres of farmland surrounding East Slaughter Lane, the property owned by the Goodnight family since the 1960s will be transformed into a thriving neighborhood over the next ten years.The first phase of Goodnight development includes the construction of 104 single-family homes and 90 condominiums. Builders for the neighborhood are Centerra Homes, M/I Homes, and Homes by Avi. The homes constructed in the first phase will feature an ldquo;alley stylerdquo; layout, with charming front porches and garage access at the rear of the home via an alley street. Homes will range in size from 1,200 to 3,500 square feet. These homes are just the beginning of the housing options in Goodnight. Plans show a total of 3,500 homes, condos, and apartments when the community is complete. These residences will be a mixture of for-sale and rental units, with prices starting around the $200s.Early plans for the community reveal a future community pool, pocket parks, ponds, and three-mile trail system. The neighborhood also borders Onion Creek Metropolitan Park, which the City of Austin had planned to redevelop into a thriving recreation space akin to Zilker Park. Proposals for development are still in the works by the city, but the Goodnight neighborhood is set to develop 120 acres of the park with a dog park, playscapes, horseback riding trails, and huge lawn. Goodnight also plans to bring about 226,000 square feet of retail and office space to its future Town Center.Wersquo;re excited to see how Goodnight will enhance Southeast Austin living over the next few years.
