How to Factory Reset iPad without Passcode

You can set a passcode for Ipad to lock others out of your device and protect private information. However, it is easy to forget the original digital passcode, when you are used to unlocking your iPad with Face ID or Touch ID. If you can't remember your passcode, you need to reset iPad to access it. In this post, you will discover two simple ways to factory reset your iPad without passcode.

Tip 1: Factory Reset iPad without Passcod from iCloud

If you have enabled the "Find My iPhone" feature on your iPad, you can use iCloud website to erase all data and settings from your iPad, including passcode. This can be the easiest way to restore your iPad to factory settings when you fogort the device password. Here's how to do it:

Step 1: Visit on your other devices like iPhone or computer. 

Step 2: Sign in with your Apple ID and password. The Apple ID should be the one you used to set up on iPad.

Step 3: Click on "Find iPhone", and you will be led to a map page.

Step 4: Click "All Devices" at the top to show all your devices using Find My iPhone. 

Step 5: Select your passcode locked iPad.

Step 6: Select "Erase iPad" option and click "Erase" again to confirm.

Tip 2: Use Recovery Mode to Reset iPad without Passcode

You can also use iTunes to factory reset iPad without password. Your locked iPad is likely to be detected by iTunes if you have synced it with iTunes before. Then you may restore your iPad with iTunes directly. Otherwise, you need to put your iPad into recovery mode first. 

Step 1: Launch iTunes on your computer. If you're using a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15, launch Finder.

Step 2: Connect your iPad to the computer and put it into recovery mode:

  • On iPad with Face ID: Firstly, press and quickly release the Volume Up button, and then press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Secondly, press and hold the Top button until your devcie reboots. Thirdly, keep holding the Top button until you see the recovery mode screen.
  • On iPad with Home button: Press and hold the Home button and the Top button at the same time. Keep holding them until your device get into recovery mode.

Step 3: Then you will see a pop up in iTune window, saying your iPad requires to be updated or restored. Click "Restore".

Step 4: When the restore process is completed, you can access your iPad without entering passcode any more.
