BARBARIAN MENTALITY IN A CIVILIZED SOCIETY

We talk of moving mountains, when we can’t even turn a rock. ‘We’, the youngest country! Where youth has a domination over population, can’t even fight for a cause- an intense cause. Even after attainment of most qualified degrees and alumni, has our mentality changed today?

We live in a ‘civilized’ Society, where education is given prime importance, where people know the differences between the right and the wrong, where people are liberalized. But has it really come to practicality? Then what is causing rapes?

Are we as free as we claim to be? Do you feel that shiver and the goose bumps feel when you walk on an empty street even in bright daylight? It seems that even the street is staring at you with its naked eyes and mischievous intention. Don’t those sweat beads decor your foreheads? But until when? Until when, all of us will go through the same state? Encountering fear at every turn, every corner of the street, every other stop.. Until when? I don’t think that the ‘socially constructed and democratically built society’ would ever be able to have an answer to it .

Every day reportedly about 96 assaults take place, Every hour 9 acid attacks and every minute 5 rapes.. That’s where our country is progressing best at. At world level- Top. That isn’t a moment of pride, is it? All of us should hang our heads as low as possible- in shame-regret-guilt. Because our country has a beautiful depiction of religion. Where goddesses are adored, worshiped, devoted. But what actually the picture is? Every mother, daughter, sister, every female friend, foe, colleague, every girl in this country, irrespective of all age bars, are given stolen glances and unwanted nudges and pokes.

A recent report of a four year old girl being raped came into flashlight, the culprits being the IDOLs of our culture, the gurus- two teachers of a reputed school. The news shattered my heart, my soul cried within, the voices within me shouted so loud that it could even reach the heavens, but all I appeared was silent on outside- all pale. FOUR YEARS old! Isn’t it too young? Were these people demons? How would she deal with what happened to her? The incidents struck me so hard and I was drifted to write about such cruelty happening in the EDUCATED society.

Has our ‘empowering of women’ made any difference? Rapes happened then. Rapes are happening now. Candle marches, youth strikes and silent vows won’t let a girl have her justice. The pleas are unheard. The voices made bygone. The cases go on pending and the culprits move on freely and encourage other to follow their practise, since they are moved out of danger.

All we need to do is UNITE. Rapes are a more serious form of terrorism. And these terrorists must be killed. That’s the only way we can protect our girls..
