How To Improve Your Resume In Under 10 Minutes?

If you want to know how to Improve your resume, you’ll love this article.

Sometimes it’s better to entrust a professional to write a resume. You will then have the certainty that he will do it properly, and the Employer will certainly look at you favorably. However, there are a few things you can do yourself to improve your references and increase your chance for success. These five tips will help you highlight Achievements and slightly “tweak” your CV.

How To Improve Your Resume?

1. Separating duties from achievements.

One of the fastest and best solutions is to divide responsibilities and achievements in previous positions. This solution will help the employer see your skills, which you often do not realize yourself. The form should be brief and legible – you can point your current responsibilities, and under them your achievements. Quit the most important details of your CV and highlight them with bullets.

The employer usually only has a few seconds to review your biography, and such a solution makes it easy to find interesting details. Do not overdo it with the amount of words and imagination.

2. Use the words of action.

This is the first rule of writing a CV, and although it requires some time, it will definitely distinguish your application from the others. Each sentence or fragment of a sentence in the CV should start with a strong verb defining the action, eg improve, strengthen, create or cooperate. If there are many repetitions in your CV, such as “better” or “better” – do not hesitate to just take a dictionary of synonyms and replace them with other words.

3. Remove the first-person form.

Do not try to write your CV in the first person singular. This is the most common language mistake made when writing this document. There is no room for such personal pronouns as “I”, “we” in the CV. First of all – sentences built in this way are too lengthy, and you certainly do not want your CV to become boring and without any real sense. And secondly – it distracts attention from your actual skills.

For example, look at the two sentences below:
A. I helped my company to earn over 4 million USD in the first year since the program was introduced.
B. To play a key role in obtaining 4 million USD plus income in the first year of the program.

The second version is more interesting and draws the attention of the reader. Your CV is talking about you, so get rid of personal pronouns.

4. Hold on to the details.

Only in exceptional cases, a biography should have more than 2 pages. Your CV should contain all information in a concise form, preferably if you put everything on one page. If the biography is too long, the employer will not be able to catch the most important things. If you have many years of professional experience, it may seem impossible to “trim” your CV to 1-2 pages. Remember, however, that this is a necessary evil. Prepare a red pen or put your finger on the “delete” key and delete all unnecessary information.
Remember that your CV should include:

  • Content-rich and quick to capture points – you’ll gain more attention from the seized employers.
  • Nobody wants to hear about every little achievement. Focus on what is most important.
  • Remember that your list of achievements would not be longer than 5 points. Then you can distinguish the most important ones.
  • Focus on the last 10 years of your career (unless previous experience is necessary to obtain the job for which you are applying).

5. Consider the format.

Do not overdo the size and type of the font, because you will be taken for a person who lacks professionalism. Use a simple font such as Times New Roman or Arial. Avoid using colors, icons, images, graphics or any embellishments. Page border is acceptable (and even desirable), but it should not be overdone. Above all, aim for a simple message. Consider whether the reader can quickly find the most interesting points of your CV and easily find the date of previous employment. Maybe everything is too obvious for you, but many people looking for a job can get carried away and try to make their application as special as possible. Excessive fantasy distracts attention from achievements.

There are many companies that write professional CVs. In such institutions, people with many years of experience work, who have already written many such documents for people at every stage of their professional life.
