How To Change Your Windscreen Wipers
Windscreen wipers are a necessary safety feature in any car. Although the problem with them is that they do not last forever, they need replacing every few years. The rubber Blades dry out over time due to use and the sun. How can you identify when you need new wipers? They will have some of the following symptoms:
- Squeaky
- Streaking Water
- Leave a milky film while wiping
Before committing to buying a new set off wipers try to erase the dirt and hardened rubber off your blades with a wet rag. You can get some more life out of them this way.
Step 1 – Buy Your Blades
Before you go ahead and buy them. Ensure you know the exact model of your car. This includes the mode, make & year and further specification such as ‘type.’
Go to your nearest garage or shopping centre and give them all your car’s information. They will be able to locate your options. There be different branded blades cheaper to more expensive, a good rule is not to buy the cheapest ones or the expensive ones but the ones in the middle. It is usually a good idea to replace both blades at once.
Step 2 – Remove The Old Ones
First turn the ignition on and turn your wipers on. Pull the entire wiper assembly up so that they remain vertical. Turn the blade perpendicular to the arm so that the hinge is visible. You will notice a small tab on one side of the hinge. Pull the tab out, and you’ll hear a snap ( don’t panic this is just the wiper disconnecting) Next is to pull the wiper down towards the car. This will separate the blade and arm.
Carefully remove the blade through one of the holes. Once removed the wiper arms are now unprotected metal, so don’t leave the arm up as it could damage your windshield if it falls. It is better to place a cloth and tissue then put the arm down to prevent scratching the windshield. If you tab seems to be broken, you can use a key to pop it out.
Step 3 – Attach The New Ones
Grab your new wipers and insert the arm through the appropriate hole which pushes the actual wiper up. To determine the correct whole, it goes through you need to adjust the hinge to be perpendicular with the wiper and line it so the arms hook will go over the hinge. Once the arm is in place, line the hook over the hinge and push them together. You will hear a similar click or snap when it is locked in. Lower the arm and do the same again on the next one.
Hopefully, now you will notice are a more significant difference in their performance. If your windscreen wipers are damaged and it is an old used car why not try selling to a used car buyer such as these Trusted Car Buyers.
