2 Solution Fix: Invalid Value For Registry Error In Windows 10

Some Windows 10 users have reported facing the problem when they try to open a JPG/JPEG/PDF images in Photo app and face the Invalid value for registry error. Let me explain first What does invalid value for registry mean; Registry error is usually seen after upgrading from Windows 7 / 8 or 8.1 to Windows 10. The registry keeps instructions of all applications, it will tell the computer what to do and where to go when a particular action is taken. So, follow my tutorial to know how to solve this issue.

How to Fix: Invalid Value For Registry Error In Windows 10

Solution 1: Delete outdated entries (older version number)

Step 1. You press Windows + R Keys and enter regedit in Run dialog box to open Registry Editor. Click OK or hit Enter.

Step 2. In the left pane of Registry Editor, you go to following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppModel\Repository\Families\Microsoft.Windows.Photos_8wekyb3d8bbwe

Step 3. Now at this registry location, you first need to take the ownership of Microsoft.Windows.Photos_8wekyb3d8bbwe registry key. Next, you expand Microsoft.Windows.Photos_8wekyb3d8bbwe registry key and check sub keys next to it. There should 50% keys are for the latest or existing version and 50% outdated version keys. At this step, all you need to do is to delete outdated version registry keys which should be equal to number of keys for newer version. For example, if you have two keys then one must be for the outdated version and another should be for the newer version. Therefore, this simple method can be applied if you’ve 4, 6, 8 or more in total.

Step 4. Once found all outdated version keys, you right click on them one by one and choose Delete.

Step 5. Exit Registry Editor and restart your computer.

This can fix the issue if not then go to the second solution.

Solution 2: Clear and reset Store cache in Windows 10

You should be able to fix ‘this invalid value for registry‘ problem by clearing the Windows Store Caches. To do that, follow these steps:

Step 1. Make sure close Windows Store app, if it’s running.

Step 2. You press Win + R keys to open the Run menu box. Then type WSReset.exe and click OK to start the process.

Enter WSReset.exe

Step 3. You restart the Windows Store app and check if the problem is resolved.
