The Top 5 Surfing Destinations In The World

Have you ever dreamed of being on top of the bluest and highest wave? If so, then you have a surfer soul and that is something to admire! This sport connects those who practice it with their spiritual side and makes them in sync with mother nature. It is not an easy peace to get, it takes a lot of practice and requires great skill. Regardless if you are an expert or a beginner, here are some of the top destinations to get into the water and ride a few waves...if you can!

1. Nazare: Located in Portugal, Nazare offers waves made for adventurous and fearless Surfers. Its waves can be up to 75 ft tall. In this destination there are several surfing spots, such as Praia do Norte, Praia da Vila, Praia de Nazare and Praia do Sul. These locations are primarily for expert surfers due the size of the waves in each place. The waves are big, heavy and fast due the formation at the bottom of the ocean; the “Nazare Canyon”. This canyon is 5 km deep and 230 km long and causes the formation of super challenging waves.


2. Teahupo’o: Another surfing point exclusively for experts. The waves on this coast of Tahiti can reach up to 22 ft. Teahupo’o is iconic for surfers and is the host of one of the tournaments part of the World Championship Tour (WTC). This place is known for its dangerous, shallow reef that can be high risk for surfers. Aside from that, it offers great waves that are perfect to ride and experience being inside the barrel of a wave.



3. Puerto Escondido: Also called the Mexican Pipeline,  Puerto Escondido is the most popular surf spot in Mexico. This is due to its perfect pipe formations that make its waves very attractive to surfers. Zicatela, The Point, and Kiddie Break are the most popular areas to catch some waves. This town is the home to some of the best surfers in the world. Many have been recognized in world tournaments due to the skills they acquired in their hometown.




4. Australia: One of the most iconic surfing countries, Australia offers many spots to practice surfing. You can ride all level of waves throughout the different places that this beautiful country has to offer. Some popular spots are Byron Bay, Cactus Beach, Bells Beach and Noosa. These are just a few of many areas that make Australia one of the world’s favorite countries among surfers.



5. Hawaii: Last but certainly not least, the home of this sport, Hawaii. The different islands offer all types of waves and welcome surfers of all skills levels. You can ride big waves at Oahu’s North Shore or Waimea Bay. If you are looking for something a bit easier, you can try your luck in Canoes, where you will be able to improve your skill in calmer waters. This bay is also great to try out your new board and get a feel for it.
