To successful and fulfilling 2021!

As we all get ready to say goodbye to the challenging year that was 2020, marked by the Covid-19 pandemic and problems related to it. Hopes and wishes are for a better New Year 2021.

The year 2020 is for sure not going to be written with the golden letters in the Wine industry’s history. Although the year weather-wise was not that bad for most wine-growing regions, major problem were unsold wine stocks. That’s why some winegrowers were forced to either do green harvest or turn unsold wine into disinfectant. And when it comes to selling wines, due to bars and restaurants’ closure, disturbance in sales caused quite some gray hairs to winemakers. However, wineries that already had established e-commerce, had a bit easier job coping with the lockdown and sales disturbance.

The ProWein Business Report 2020 based on 1,500 wine sector experts from 46 countries revealed that smaller wineries were hit the hardest in this pandemic, because they tend to depend more on the tourism and hospitality sector. On the other hand, larger wine producers were able to partly or fully compensate for losses in the bar and restaurant channels by increasing sales through retailers. The report mentioned that a slow recovery is expected, and possible further losses in 2021.

Despite pessimistic prospects, there is a silver line; the wine industry is one of the oldest industries on Earth and has a long history and plenty of experience adapting to changes from the past. Wine market experts say that origin, sustainability, and online presence are the keys to Successful recovery and future sales. Now you know what you need to focus on in 2021 and where further improvements can be made.
