Going Vegan means, first and foremost, becoming conscious of our power to choose. As consumers, we should strive to make choices that not only enrich our lives, but also contribute to the well-being of our planet and all its creatures.
Delicious plant-based foods and cruelty-free items are no longer luxuries but viable options that can make a positive difference both for the environment and in our personal stories.

This guide is a collection of vegan resources, books, websites and blogs that will equip you with all the information you need for a smooth transition to a vegan lifestyle. Use it to create a way of living that’s both thoughtful and fulfilling, and don’t forget to share it with your friends!

How To Go Vegan Guides

The short one: How to Start a Vegan Lifestyle: A Step-by-Step Guide to Help You Go Vegan the Right Way. Written by yours truly, this step-by-step guide is a concise introduction to veganism, from its values and benefits to practical advice on how to make the switch as easy and fulfilling as possible. The guide is structured into eight actionable bite-size steps that outline a gradual approach to going vegan, with a special emphasis on the power of awareness and personal motivation.

The long one: Erik Marcus’ Ultimate Vegan Guide: Compassionate Living Without Sacrifice (first edition). When I found this little gem of an e-book, I actually screamed with delight. Beautifully written, easy to read and very informative, Marcus’ guide starts with a quick exploration of why on Earth would anyone go vegan and then goes on to address every single aspect of veganism, from cooking and nutrition all the way to mindset and outreach. This is an extremely useful guide so, if you’re up for spending a few hours learning the ins and outs of veganism, you should definitely check it out.

Documentaries

Food, Inc. is a cinematic investigation of the American food industry, revealing some surprising truths about what we eat and how it’s produced. Examining the nation’s food supply, the Oscar-nominated documentary explains how the corporate-controlled agribusiness produces food that is unhealthy, in a way that is environmentally harmful and abusive of both animals and employees.

Forks Over Knives is a documentary film that examines the idea of food used as medicine. Featuring renowned physicians and nutrition specialists such as John McDougall, Caldwell Esselstyn, and T. Colin Campbell, among others, the film advocates a low-fat, whole-food, plant-based diet as the best way to avoid or reverse certain degenerative diseases, including diabetes, cancer and heart disease.

Vegucated is a light-hearted documentary that follows the stories of three meat-and-cheese-loving people who agree to go vegan for six weeks. “Part sociological experiment and part adventure comedy”, the film addresses topics such as the origins of omnivorism and the various benefits of plant-based diets, the disconnect between farm animals and the consumption of meat, and the resistance some of us feel towards veganism and vegetarianism.
