Tip: Don't count on getting in without reservations unless you want to wait a long time. The service is worth the extra work.

2. Polite Provisions

Located in University Heights at 4696 30th St, Polite Provisions is a popular place to visit for both tourists and locals. One of the most popular menu items is the punch bowl, which is large enough to share with several friends and comes in a variety of flavors. They do offer happy hour throughout the week, so it's a great place to stop by for a unique and affordable drink.

Tip: Try the homemade sodas as well.

3. Crushed

Easy to find at 967 Garnet Ave, Crushed has great drinks and delicious food. Brunch is one of the most popular meal times, although any time is perfect for a cocktail at this bar. They have unique mimosas, craft beer, local wine and many different promotions throughout the week to make trying new things easy. Some of the favorites on the menu are sliders and mimosa flights.

4. The Aero Club Bar

One of the coolest dive bars in San Diego, this spot has flights for everything from bourbon to whiskey. In fact, it has been named one of the top whiskey bars in America with over 800 different kinds to try. There's even an old-school jukebox to play music on in addition to fun decorations that will make you feel right at home. Located at 3365 India St, this is a spot that you won't regret visiting in the area. From the moment you see the hundreds of bottles of liquor at the bar you'll know you're in a fun spot.

5. Hamilton's Tavern

With a pool table, craft beer and shuffle board, this bar at 1521 30th St is not to be missed. Hamilton's Tavern is a local and tourist favorite, and offers a delicious food menu in addition to great drinks. The prices here are affordable, making it a great choice if you're on a budget.

Tip: Try the local craft beers they alternate every week.
