This year could be shaping up as the year of the woman. Women are beginning to speak out on sexual harassment and abuse. And there are a record number of women who have declared they are running for office (especially among Democrats). That could help to progress women's issues across the board if many of them are elected (and I do believe the Congress will have significantly more women next year - which is a good thing).

A new Gallup Poll (done between January 2nd and 7th of a random national sample of 1,024 adults, with a 4 point margin of error) also shows that a growing portion of Americans say they are unhappy with women's position in American society. That percentage has grown 11 points in the last decade (from 26% to 37%) in the general population -- and 21 points among Democrats (from 34% to 55%).

Only the Republicans disagree. Only 16% said they were unhappy about it in 2008, and that number remains the same in 2018. Republicans (of both genders) were happy to keep women as second-class citizens in 2008, and they still are (probably because a large number adhere who evangelical christianity, which preaches women's subservience to men).

If Republicans don't change that attitude (and they are unlikely to do that), then it will help fuel their ouster from power in this YEAR OF THE WOMAN!
