World Refugee Day (June 20)
Every year millions of people flee their homes to escape war, violence and persecution in their homeland. Every day we hear hundreds of migrants being killed in their attempt to reach safer places while travelling in unseaworthy boats and vessels. They have countless stories of plights and sufferings – heartbreaking for anyone with a human heart. From delicate children to pregnant women to sickly elders, tale of their pains and hardships are nothing but a grim reminder of the decaying values of human beings. Perpetration of violence through terror in the war-torn countries has been a crushing force rendering millions of innocent people refugees. Today, it is important to recognize that Refugee crisis is not just the misfortune of the refugees but a crisis of humanity. On this World Refugee Day, I call upon the United Nations, international organizations and the governments around the world to demonstrate a generous gesture of humanitarian support to these traumatized people in words and also in the spirit. Striving for restoring peace and harmony in the war-ravaged societies is everybody’s business.
