Happy Valentine Day (February 14)
One of the most popular legends regarding the origin of Valentine Day has its roots to ancient Italian society. The celebration is found to have originated due to the passion of a Christian priest St. Valentine to help the love birds get married even when marriage had been strictly prohibited by the Roman Emperor Claudius. Valentine was eventually executed because he acted against the will of the Emperor.
Emperor Claudius required soldiers to fight wholeheartedly in the war zones for him. He believed that family was the serious weakness of the soldiers to fight with determination in the battleground. The reason he believed was that they gave priority to their families rather than to the cause of the country. Therefore, the Emperor Claudius abolished the concept of marriage altogether. Driven by the conviction that love must let to usher into the world of affection and joy, Bishop Valentine took it upon himself to get the soldiers married. He used to invite lovers secretly to his place and conduct their marriages. When the Emperor Claudius learnt about this, he was infuriated and thus, ordered to put Valentine behind the bars. The legend further reveals that while awaiting execution in the prison, the guru of love Bishop Valentine himself fell in love with the blind daughter of the jailer. Before his execution Valentine had sent her a message signed “From Your Valentine” which has become the catchphrase for all the loving souls worldwide till today.
On this special day, I wish to say ‘happy valentine day’ to you my beloved wife ! I am really indebted to you for the ceaseless love, care and warmth you have provided me all through my life. Though this single day is not at all enough for me to show how much I love you, I do not want to miss this moment to make you feel the fragrance of my love that lasts for eternity.
