Obama's been a disaster for the cause of civilisation in Libya and Syria. But he didn't start the slide, it took Republicans to do that. IS was born in post-invasion Iraq: Bush's destruction of the country created it. Democrat policy has been disgraceful, notably in obstructing Russian action and in supporting jihadist factions, but Republicans created this nightmare, and they still want to pervert the anti-IS campaign into a drive against Iran which has - unlike the US - been steadfast throughout in its opposition to the jihadi menace. I don't hear anything from Republicans about wanting to support Syria, Russia and Iran in finishing IS once and for all, just more scuttling away and sniping at others. On Middle east policy both parties are garbage. But one doesn't seek to mask that with a message of hate for its own sake.
