UP assembly elections 2017; Importance of first voters.

In a multi phased Poll dates, the first Phase poll is going to be held on 11th feb, 2017 in the western UP. First phase means first voters, that will help the voters of rest of the UP in decide their mood for the next phase of the polls. The mood is very important in multi phased election, the people will sense the way of the wind is blowing and that is an advantage for the every voters.


The political leaders also agreed the importance of first voters for the rest of the UP. Akhilesh Yadav also stressing the importance of being the first voters in the UP at a rally last week in Muzaffarnagar and said that "You are voting first UP. You will also decide the tone for the rest of the state". A senior BJP leader in Muzaffarnagar also agreed that to win UP, the performance in western UP is a must.

In the last assembly polls, the SP and BSP had won 24 seats each, followed by BJP(11), Ajit Singh-led Rashtriyaa Lok Dal (9) and the Congress (5).

After the Muzaffarnagar and Shamli violence, the whole contours of the Region has changed. In the violence that over three days starting September 7, 2013 and killed at least 65, hundreds injureds and thousands displaced. The most of the affected were from the Muslims community, they also had fled from villages to escape from the carnage. In the last Lok Sabha elections the BJP had swept all the seats in the western UP.

The BJP, SP and Congress had played down the 2013 violence in their campaign speeches, that had become the fulcrum for the BSP in the poll. Mayawati had constantly referred to the riots and also extolled her party's superior law and order track record, in her speeches in the whole campaign.

Also once a time the region was a BSP stronghold, where the party had overwhelming support from the Muslims and Dalits community.

After the Akhilesh and Rahul announced an alliance before the assembly polls 2017, the Mayawati and their party will face stiff competition for the Muslims-Dalit, even particularly Muslims.

But there are also ome other issues in the region that include the infrastructure development and the sugar cane dues payments.

In this region, there are 839 candidates in the fray where 26,823 polling stations have been set up. There are 1.17 crore women and that of total 1,508 belong to third gender category. Sahibabad is the larget constituency in the region, while the Jalesar is the smallest one.

The Agra South have the 26 candidates that is the maximum number to have in this region, while the Hastinapur have the leaset number of aspirants that have only six candidates. There are many prominent candidates including Pankaj Singh, son of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh from Noida; from Mathura the Congress Legislature Party leader Pradeep Mathur; from Kairana Mriganka, daughter of BJP MP Hukum Singh and from Sardhana controversial BJP MLAs Sangeet Som and Suresh Rana are from Thanabhawan.

According to the ECI, all the necessary security arrangements had been made in all all the districts of the region. The Muzaffarnagar and its neighbouring Shamli, which had witnessed communal riots in 2013, have 887 polling centres and for that around 6,000 paramilitary personnel have been deployed.

The Chief Election Commissioner, Naseem Zaidi, who have reviewed poll preparations and also said that those who had migrated from Kairana for any region, will be given security if they want to participate in the polling in their respective areas.

The districts that is going to poll in the first phase are Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Hapur, Aligarh, Bulandshahr, Mathura, Agra, Hathras, Firozabad, Kasganj and Etah.

The first phase is of poll is TODAY 11-02-2017 and the other six phases of polling are on February 15,19,23 and 27 and on the March 4 and 8.

The counting of votes will be done on 11th March, 2017.
