STEPPING UP

"Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others." ~ Philippians 2:4

Conservatives like me are often characterized with words like heartless, lacking in compassion, unsympathetic, mean, Cruel, horrible, the list is pretty endless, when people are talking about Government policy and spending taxpayer dollars.  These characterizations have come in more frequency during the election season and after the election especially in response to things like the refugee crisis or border security or to the obamacare repeal.  However people often miss the point that I think Americans should help those who are suffering and in need and I know that bigger government is not the answer to the issues that plague the world.  The onus should be on each of us to give as we see fit, not to have the government take from tax payer dollars to give to whoever it believes is worthy.  That is not charity that is redistribution of wealth.  The American people as a whole are one of the most charitable groups on earth and conservatives typically give in larger sums as a whole.

Now before you call me the devil ask yourself these questions:
  • Are you willing to open your home and wallet to a refugee family for the duration of the crisis? If the answer is no, then ask yourself why you think the government should do what you are unwilling to do. If the answer is yes, then I say go for it, there are tons of charities who need your help.
  • Are you willing to pay the medical bills of someone who cannot afford insurance? If the answer is no, then ask yourself why you think the government should do what you are unwilling to do. If the answer is yes, then I say go for it, there are tons of charities that need your help.
  • Are you willing to open your home and wallet to a group of illegal aliens until they can support themselves?  If the answer is no, (well you can guess the rest).
  • Do you already open your home and wallet to those in need your community?
We as a whole need to realize the US is $20 Trillion in debt, which means each family currently owes $152,000.  This type of debt is unsustainable and unless we get serious about taking care of our country and thus her people we will not have a country, at some point our nation will crumble due to us ignoring it.

It is not cruel or mean or heartless to prioritize care for those in America who need our help, in fact it is cruel, mean and heartless to not do so.  It is time to for us as a nation to grow up and quit expecting the government to be the answer to all the ills in the world.  It is time for all of us to step up and step out.  Government truly has one job and that is to protect We the People, expecting them to do everything else is what got us in this mess in the first place.

Today pray for those in need.
Today pray for the opportunity to be a blessing to someone else, ask God to show you who needs your help and then step out in Faith at what He is prompting you to do.
Today pray for our first responders and military as they work tirelessly to keep us and others safe.
Today pray for our government, local, state and federal for Wisdom, Discernment and Protection.

Blessings,

Mel
