AZ New Voter Suppression Law

Arizona's 2022 State Legislature Session saw a bunch of Bad Bills.

But their Governor, Doug Ducey (R), has signed the First Voter Suppression Law of Session, trying again to require Proof of Citizenship to Vote.

They tried this nearly 20 years ago, approving a Ballot Measure that required Election Officials to Reject any Voter Registration Application Not accompanied by Proof of Citizenship, such as a Birth Certificate, Passport, or Tribal ID.

This was challenged, with the Supreme Court Ruling in 2013, that Federal Law Protecting Voting Rights overruled Arizona's Citizenship Requirement.

This New Law is a direct attempt to Circumvent that Supreme Court Ruling.

It allows Voters to participate in Federal Elections but if they don't immediately provide Proof of Citizenship, Election Officials must Investigate if a Voter is a Citizen and can Disallow the Ballot if the Voter doesn't show Proof.

This includes People who are already Registered, and stops Anyone without Prior Proof of Citizenship from Voting by Mail, which most Arizonans do.
