NY Lawmakers To Introduce Bill Stripping State Pensions From Those Impeached

Under Current New York State Law, if Governor Cuomo (D), were to be Impeached, he would still Keep his Pension. Two Lawmakers, now say they want to Change that.

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara (D-111th District) and Senator James Skoufis (D=39th District) say they plan to introduce a Bill that would Strip State Pensions from Anyone Impeached by the State Legislature.

Making this a Reality would be a Multi-Year Process.

The Bill would have to Pass both Houses, in Two Consecutive Legislative Sessions, then earn the Support of Voters on a Subsequent Ballot.

Assemblyman Santabarbara says he feels this work would be worth it, saying, “Potentially, should a governor like this who’s clearly abusing power, yet he could go through an impeachment process be removed from office and then walk off and collect a state funded pension. It’s just not right.”

If this Bill were to Clear All of its Hurdles, it would be Retroactive, taking Pensions Away from All Impeached Officials, even if their Impeachment happened before the Law was in place.
