New Jersey Gov., Phil Murphy (D) showed off a shiny, new ALP-45 Dual-Power Locomotive manufactured by Alstom during a Ceremony at Newark Penn Station, on Tuesday.

The Locomotives, run on Diesel or Electric, making the Equipment Eco-Friendly, more Reliable, and more Efficient.

"Since day one, our administration has been committed to building a better, more reliable, and sustainable NJ TRANSIT," said Murphy. "This locomotive is the first of 25 that will reinvigorate the NJ TRANSIT fleet with new, environmentally-friendly equipment. New Jersey commuters deserve only the best, and that is what we are delivering to them today."

NJDOT Commissioner, and NJ TRANSIT, Chair Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti, said the Locomotives produce Zero Emissions when Running on Electric Power and have Fewer Emissions when running on Diesel Power than the All-Diesel Locomotives they are Replacing.

While Rail ridership is at about 25% of Pre-COVID Levels, NJ TRANSIT President & CEO, Kevin Corbett, expects those Numbers to bounce back.

"When you start getting a half hour, 45 minutes at the Lincoln Tunnel and you say, 'What am I paying for parking and tolls?' and with congestion pricing, I'm very optimistic. You'll see one year, two years from now it will be crowded," Corbett said.

The Railroad should have 25 of these lLcomotives by August 2022.

According to a press release from the Governor's Office, the ALP-45s offer a Significant Increase in Horsepower, Acceleration and Available head-end Power.

The ALP-45 Locomotives are designed to Operate Push-Pull Passenger Train Service on both Electrified and Non-Electrified Lines at Speeds of up to 125 mph in Electric Mode and up to 100 mph in Diesel Mode.

The Locomotives will undergoing Six weeks of Testing before being brought into Service.
