Proton X90 Seven-Seater SUV Official Photos

Although we have been referring to it as the Proton X90 for a considerable amount of time now, did you know that Proton has never officially referred to its forthcoming large SUV as the 'X90' before? Now it is confirmed! Behold the brand new Proton X90 Seven-Seater SUV complete with official photos. Yes! The Proton X90 is now the official name for the seven-seat SUV that sits atop the Proton X range, which also includes the X50 and X70 SUVs. This matches its position as the flagship of Proton's X series. These are the very first confirmed pictures that have been released of the X90.

So it has been confirmed, during a recent media preview session, that X90 will be the name for Proton's latest SUV. More interestingly, this new Proton X90 will be equipped with a so-called Mild Hybrid system. Two weeks ago, production of the "Premium Modern Family SUV" began in Tanjung Malim. This announcement coincided with the release of the first official teaser for the SUV and the news that Proton will unveil the X90 this year to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

The X90 is based on the Geely Haoyue, also known as the Geely Okavango in markets including the Philippines. The Proton's grille is distinct from that of the Geely, with chrome prongs emanating from the Proton logo. In addition, the headlamps feature L-shaped DRLs that extend upward, and the fog lamp surrounds are finished in black rather than chrome.

You can anticipate the design of the X90 to be very similar to that of the Haoyue, with the exception of those design cues. Spyshots have also revealed a dashboard that appears to be very similar to the one found in the Geely, with the obvious exception of the tiger emblem that is found on the steering boss in the Proton.

Proton X90 Will Be Powered by Mild Hybrid Power

It has been verified that the X90 will feature Mild Hybrid Power. A 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo engine is complemented by a 48V electric motor synergy (EMS) system that combines six essential components: a belt-starter generator (BSG), DC-DC converter, lithium-ion battery, battery management system, recuperation braking system, hybrid module control system. The transmission is a damp dual-clutch seven-speed unit that drives the front wheels.

Proton X90 Will Have 190 PS and 300 Nm of Torque

Yes, the 1.5 TGDI engine (without the BSG) is the same one used in the X50 and X70 MC (in case you were curious). In such applications, the turbo triple generates 177 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque. Here, the BSG adds 13 PS and 45 Nm of torque, bringing the total output to 190 PS and 300 Nm of torque.

Proton's Tanjung Malim engine assembly facility is responsible for the production of the TGDI for the X70 MC. The automaker has stated that the target output for this year is 60,000 engines, which will be utilised across several different Proton models.

Proton X90 Length, Width & Height

The Geely Haoyue is the largest SUV of the brand. It is 316 mm longer and 69 mm wider than the X70 at 4,835 mm and 1,900 mm, respectively. The wheelbase of the seven-seater is 2,815 millimetres, 145 millimetres longer than that of the X70. The X90 will compete with three-row SUVs like the Mazda CX-8 and Hyundai Santa Fe, and its dimension falls between those two – see the table of comparisons above. The seating configuration is 2-3-2, and the third row has its own air conditioning outlets.

Proton did not disclose pricing or even the date when reservations will be accepted, but it did reveal that there will be four X90 variants, ranging from Standard to Flagship. Given that the X70's MSRP ranges from RM98,800 to RM128,800, we anticipate the X90's MSRP to fall between RM130,000 and RM160,000. Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), and Traffic Sign Information are highlighted new features. (TSI). In addition, the highest trim level features a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. Beginning on April 8, there will be a series of preview sessions in six cities.
