PDP sacks Sheriff names caretaker committee, chairman by Sen Makarfi

Following the suspension of the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the sacking of Ali Modu Sheriff as the acting national chairman of the party, the party has named a 7-man caretaker committee to manage the affairs of the party.

The committee will be headed by former two-time governor of Kaduna state, Senator Ahmed Makarfi with Senator Ben Obi as secretary.

The other members of the committee include; Senator Odion Ugbesia, Senator Abdul Ningi, Barr. Kevin Usman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye and Mrs. Aisha Aliyu.

Earlier Ali Modu Sheriff announced the postponement of the party’s national convention holding in Port-Harcourt, asking delegates to home.

According to Sheriff, the decision was in obedience of a court order restraining the party from proceeding with the convention.

But party leaders, led by PDP governors disagreed with Sheriff, proceeding with the convention which produced the Makarfi led Caretaker Committee.

Meanwhile, a group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have accused the Deputy President of Senate, Ike Ekweremadu and some persons in the Southwest PDP leadership of betraying the Southwest in the affairs of the PDP.

Ariyo-Dare Atoye, co-convener of the PDP Reform Group, in a statement made available to our reporter, the group said it is deeply saddened that two avoidable painful developments have thrown our party into a serious dilemma and an intractable crisis.
