City people crowns dare king of R&B

It was a fabulous outing at the SS lounge on Sunday, February 6, 2011 where R’n’B sensation Darey Art Alade was hosted to a grand reception by City People.

Friends, colleagues, journalists, radio DJs and industry top shots turned out for the event as Darey was decorated with an award as ‘The King Of R’n’B in Nigeria’.

The event was hosted by a team of compères, including Tosyn Bucknor, Tee A, Ali Baba and Gbenga Adeyinka, who kept the guests highly entertained with series of jokes and comical acts.

‘The essence of the event is to encourage and appreciate the king of R’n’B for making Nigeria proud and for being a good ambassador of the country’, says Publisher of City People Seye Kehinde.

Then Ace broadcaster Bisi Olatilo presented a glass crystal plaque to honour Darey on behalf of City people. Darey in turn thanked everybody for honouring him.

Guests at the event include Bisi Olatilo, Ayo Animashaun, Moyeen, Audu Makori, Djinee, Emeka Ike, TY Mix, Femi Adeyinka, Waje, Jedi, Ali Baba and Julius Agwu. Others include, Lamide Akintobi, Tee A, Kingsley James, Yaw, Joice Ize-Iyamu, Emma Ugolee, Joke Jaiyesimi, Kelvin Orifa, Abisoye Fagade, Kunle Afolayan, Banky W and Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi.

As a teenager, he shuttled between Cool FM and the University of Lagos where he obtained a degree in Music. His big break finally came in 2004, during the first ever African edition of the internationally renowned TV series Project Fame, in which he emerged third.

In 2006, he released the debut ‘From Me 2 U’ on Storm Records which got the album rave reviews and spurned many hit singles.

In early 2009, he dropped his second album; ‘unDAREYted’ on his newly founded Record Label, Soul Muzik which spurred the ballad ‘Not the girl‘.

Darey has gone on to receive multiple awards and notable honours all across the continent.

With his upcoming twin album, Darey sets his sights on the UK and global markets. ‘DOUBLE DARE‘ is one of the most anticipated albums to drop this year
