The road to Praia do Trafal follows the same path as that to Praia do Loulé Velho, on the way you can see some of the ancient aqueducts.

The path to the beaches goes through a broad valley areas, where old mills are observed as culverts and hydraulic-law, extensive agricultural fields and ancient olive trees, oaks and carob trees, around you can see a lot of birds and other animals in natural environental.

Closer to the sea, the terrain is marshy and the Ribeira de Carcavai forms an extensive wetland with reed beds, tamarisks and rushes.

To the east Praia do Trafal beach dunes move through the wetland, the beach is large and wide and come away again the ocher cliffs and pine forests, here at the lawns of the golf courses of Vale do Lobo.

To the west (beach Loulé Velho), the narrow beach, the cliffs red goes to the sea and the trees show their roots in the face of the cliff that is crumbling.

Here, when the sea take sand out, leaves uncovered an ancient Roman salting tanks of fish and mud of an ancient estuarine system, the vestiges of a time when sea level was very earliest.

Also hidden somewhere in this area are the ruins of an ancient Carthaginian fishing village.

There is parking near the beach, which has restaurants and toilets at its western end and is supervised during the bathing season.

Access: tarmac road exit east of Quarteira, following the direction of Almancil. The beach is signposted Trafal after bypass access entrance is at 300m, then the path continues along strike for 1.5 km. Ample parking and not ordered. Support equipment (restaurant, toilets) in the extreme west of the beach. Supervised during the bathing season. Orientation: Southwest.
