  • How are eggs frozen?

  • Eggs are frozen using either a slow-freeze method or a flash-freezing process known as vitrification.
  • In order to redeem eggs for freezing, a patient undergoes a hormone-injection process known as -vitro fertilization.
  • Once the eggs are recovered through the process, they are frozen for a fixed period of time before they are defrosted, fertilized and transferred to the uterus as embryos.

  • As per reports, infertility specialists in Mumbai charge around Rs. 50,000 for egg freezing. There can be additional charges for maintenance of those eggs.
  • Frozen eggs are stored at 196 degrees Celsius and can survive up to 10 years without disturbance.
  • However, researchers say out of every 10 frozen eggs, 7 are likely to survive the thaw and 5-6 are expected to fertilize.
