  • Indian Railways wants to cash in on the lack of direct flights between Nagpur and Hyderabad.
  • At present, flights with a stopover between the two commercial hubs take four hours or more.
  • Railways currently covers the Nagpur-Hyderabad 584-km stretch at a 60kmph average speed in nine hours.
  • It now plans to run trains at 160-200kmph speed to complete the travel in three hours.

  • While trains in the high-speed or bullet train category run at a speed of 250-350kmph, those in the semi-high speed class run at a slightly less speed, gathering a maximum of 200kmph.
  • The Delhi-Chandigarh rail route, one of north India's busiest, is scheduled to be the country's first semi-high speed project by the Indian Railways with French Railways' help.
