Delhi: Summons issued to 125 brothel owners in GB Road

  • Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) served summons to 125 brothel owners in GB Road, the infamous red light area, regarding their closure.
  • They were asked to appear between 21-24 September along with their original ID proofs.
  • The summonses were stuck on the brothel's walls where owners were unavailable.
  • There are reportedly more than 15,000 women in these brothels with over 1,000 children.

  • Delhi Police has been raiding GB Road brothels since two decades; the raids peaked at 23 in 2012 when 49 women were rescued.
  • However, rescuing a few women didn't resolve the problem; most of the thousands of women trafficked across India land up here.
  • Delhi's government earlier directed Chief Secretary to submit a report on the current status of these women in brothels.
