SC asks CBSE to declare NEET really by 26 June

What is the NEET exam?
In 2013, the NEET common entrance examination was initiated in order to stop various entrance exams for undergraduate medical exams admission like the MBBS and BDS. This year, the exam was conducted on 7 May 2017 and the result was expected on 8 June.

Madras HC passes stay order on NEET result

  • The Madurai bench of the Madras high court gave a stay order on NEET.
  • A group of students from Madurai had sought the cancellation of the NEET 2017.
  • The students alleged that the exam paper in English, Hindi and 10 other native languages was easier in some states in comparison to others.
  • The students wrote a petition to the court to cancel the exam.

  • CBSE defends itself, says English and Tamil papers equally tough
    The CBSE denied allegations and said the question papers in vernacular languages and English were varied but they were equally difficult. Moreover, this was done as a precautionary measure to avoid canceling the exam if papers were leaked.

  • Reluctant to take up the CBSE appeal, the SC finally decided to take the matter up.
  • Additional Solicitor General Maninder Singh requested an urgent hearing in the matter.
  • Singh argued in front of the bench that the moratorium on declaring the results could make students anxious and admissions schedules to courses like BDS and MBBS would be deferred in government and private colleges.

  • The SC stayed the Madras HC order and directed the CBSE board to declare the NEET 2017 results by 26 June.
  • SC also stopped the high courts in India from considering any appeal on NEET results 2017 saying the schedule of the admission shouldn't be interfered with.
  • SC will also ascertain if there was a requirement for regularity in English and native question papers.

  • The CBSE will have to display the OMR answer sheet on their website for 2 days.
  • The answer keys will be displayed on 15 June and the students can challenge them till 5 PM on 16 June.
  • The answer keys that will be displayed on 15 June can be challenged till 16 June.
  • The CBSE will declare the result of the NEET 2017 within a week of these processes.
