|India's Sania Mirza along with her doubles partner Czech Republic's Barbora Strycova started their campaign at the 2017 Australian Open with a win in the first round.
They defeated Jocelyn Rae and Anna Smith of the United Kingdom in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in just an hour.
Seeded fourth at the tournament, the Indo-Czech pair had won Apia International tennis tournament last week.

|World number seven Marin Cilic was sent packing by Dan Evans in second round of the men's singles event. Evans won 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the next round.
Australian number one Nick Kyrgios lost to Andreas Seppi after taking a two set lead. Seppi won the match 1-6, 6-7(7-1), 6-4, 6-2, 10-8 to give one of the major upsets of tournament.

|Roger Federer advanced into the third round of men's singles after defeating Noah Rubin 7-5, 6-3, 7-6(7-3) in just over two hours.
Andy Murray overcame an ankle injury and defeated Andrey Rublev 6-3, 6-0, 6-2 in straight sets.
Fifth seeded Kei Nishikori also had a 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 win over France's Jeremy Chardy to reach the third round of the tournament.

Venus Williams defeated Stefanie Voegele 6-3 6-2 in straight sets to reach the third round of Australian Open for the 13th time.
