  • The National Green Tribunal dismissed a plea asking for a ban on Christmas tree and Santa Claus to protect environment.
  • The petitioner, Ojasvi party said that Christmas tree degraded the environment as it involved plastic and wool and cotton are being wasted to make Santa Claus' costumes.
  • NGT junked the argument saying communal agenda can not be raised in the name of environmental concerns.

  • HC questions Centre over its decision to cancel airline's licence

  • Centre's decision to cancel security clearance of an air charter, carrying demonetized currency worth ₹3.5 crore was stayed by the Delhi High Court.
  • The court questioned the government's power to reject the security clearance as the charter was not carrying a bomb.
  • The government defended itself calling it a case of money laundering.
  • Court issued a notice to ministry of civil aviation.

  • Cashless transactions at 10 Metro stations from Jan1

  • 10 Metro stations will do away with transactions in cash and will go the digital way from January 1,2017.
  • Payments at these stations will be accepted through Paytm.
  • All the chosen stations are on the Blue and Yellow lines.
  • Metro chief said that 70% commuters on these stations use smart-cards which will make cashless transactions smooth.
  • "Adequate" internet connectivity will also facilitate digital payments.

  • The essay paper of the UPSC mains examination confused students this year, who wrote to PM regarding the same.

  • Fill 3,500 vacancies by July: HC to DU

  • The High Court has set the deadline for filling vacancies in the Delhi University.
  • Court ordered the university to fill its 600 vacancies by May and 3,500 vacant posts of teachers by July next year.
  • A panel set up by the court itself recommended the deadline, which also asked the university to keep in mind UGC's mandatory criteria while filling the vacancies.
