Toro and Matador Head to Egypt in ELK Studios Take on the Classic Book Style Slot!

ELK Studios are celebrating five years of the popular Wild Toro Slot series. Last month saw the release of the highly anticipated sequel Wild Toro II, and this month we are set to receive their intriguing take of a "Book-style" slot featuring Toro once again in the Book of Toro slot.

The scheduled release date for the Book of Toro is the 2nd of November 2021, so you will find this playable already in great casinos such as Mr Green, who has a full range of ELK studio slots!

The backstory sees the intrepid duo Toro and the Matador head over to Egypt on a quest to prevent Matador Diaz Jr's ancestor, the evil Captain Diaz, from finding the Book of Toro.

If there was ever a tentative plot setting for an Ancient Egyptian book themed slot, it might just be this machine, but there does seem to be enough tweaks and novel additions to the gameplay to explore this machine further!

Book of Toro Slot - Base Gameplay

On first inspection of Book of Toro, you have a very true to an original "Book Style" of slot. A 5x3 reel layout, ten fixed paylines that are numbered next to the reels, similar to the classic Novomatic Book of Ra Deluxe. The usual Book (Scatter/Wild) symbol and a randomly chosen Expanding Symbol during the free spins that can produce some massive hits.

Pretty much all of what you should expect in a Book slot has been incorporated here, with several additions that make this slot worth investigating.

The first noticeable difference is the addition of semi-stacked symbols on all the reels, with a hit frequency of 23% means that this slot doesn't feel as brutal as some of the higher variance book machines. It's still volatile, but our playtests indicate it is not as severe as some of the new book slots.

However, the most significant difference to this machine is the introduction of the Wild Toro symbol and the Mummy symbols. The combination of both of these symbols triggers the Toro Goes Wild feature, triggering a walking wild feature capable of several wild reels in the base game and even acting as an expanding symbol during the bonus round.

This provides some excellent base game hit potential along with a really novel twist if this feature triggers whilst in the free spins.

Other nice touches include sticky wilds that are held on the reels while this feature plays out. Since these symbols are Scatters and Wilds, this gives you an added tease of an easier to trigger bonus feature.

To truly appreciate how the addition of the Toro Goes Wild feature affects gameplay, you probably have to see it in action. The base game version is excellent and keeps the slot full of anticipation, but triggering this feature in the bonus round completely transforms the bonus round into a different beast!

Book of Toro Special Features

The general playstyle of the Book of Toro plays out as you would expect a typical Book slot, with expanding symbols during the free spins, decent 5 of kind payline wins, and full bonus re-triggers a possibility, with the addition of extra symbols also being awarded when this occurs.

The key differentials on this machine are the Mummy Respins and the Toro Goes Wild feature and the way this can be activated during the main free spins bonus round.

Book Symbol

The Toro Book Symbol acts as not only a Wild but also a Scatter symbol, just like all other Book slots.

Landing 3 of these anywhere on the reel triggers the main free spins bonus round or will re-trigger the bonus round during the free spins.

Book of Toro Symbol

Mummy Respin Feature

The Mummy Respin feature triggers when two or more of the Mummy symbols land in view during a spin, a respin of the reels occur and if any new Mummy symbols land in sight, the respin process continues.

Ideally, though, once the Mummy Respin feature activates, you are looking for the Toro Wild symbol to land in view, which then triggers the Toro Goes Wild feature.

Mummy Symbol

Toro Goes Wild

The Toro Wild symbol is the key symbol required to land during the Mummy Respins. This triggers the Toro Goes Wild feature, a walking wild with respins that converts all mummy symbols into wilds.

Once this feature is activated, the wild symbol walks across the reels one reel at a time, giving you several re-spins until it is removed off the first reel.

Toro will charge to the position of any Mummy symbols and convert all symbols in his path into wilds. During this re-spin feature, any regular wilds are held sticky on the reels too!

The sticky wilds are the ones that are required to trigger the main bonus feature, so this novel interaction can really help boost your chances of a bonus trigger.
