The Legend of the Ice Dragon is a 7x7 grid cascading slot game. A forthcoming release from Play'n GO,  due for official release on the 4th of November 2021.

If there is one style of slot Play'n GO do consistently well, then it's the grid-based tumbling reels ones, with an almost puzzle-game feel to them. In reality, it is still a slot where you press spin and hope for the best from a multitude of special features occurring on the screen.

The Ice Dragon slot has a very familiar feel to it. Look back at their previous release, Wild Frames. You can see that this slot shares most of the same gameplay and features. The Wild Frames feature has been renamed to Ice Frames here.

That said, the graphics, soundtrack, voiceovers, and general polish have all been improved, with an entirely different mythical dragon theme and suitably themed wintery, chilling, frozen set of special features.

Legend of the Ice Dragon - Base Gameplay

The basic gameplay of Legend of the Ice Dragon involved landing a succession of wins in the base game. Wins come from a cluster of 5 or more symbols anywhere on the grid.

When wins occur, these symbols are removed and collected into the collection meter, the reels cascade and new symbols drop in from the top. This cascading or tumbling reels feature continues until no further wins can be created.

Reaching various checkpoints on this collection meter unleashes a whole host of unique features which will assist you in collecting other symbols.

Ice Frames

The Wild symbols are of particular importance in this slot. Not only do they do the obvious of helping create wins on the grid.

When the Wilds form part of a winning cluster, they leave a sticky Ice Frame on the reel further. If this process is repeated with other wilds, then the Ice Frame with gain a multiplier value.

The Multiplier value on the Ice Frames increases by 1x each time and can reach a maximum value of 8x. They are persistent on the reels during a game round.

Freezing Features

Three unique Freezing features can be triggered randomly during play, and these will only occur on a non-winning spin. Think of it almost like a second chance of gaining a win when these mini-features do trigger.

• Hailstorm - One symbol type on the grid is chosen. 3 of the selected symbols each have five random symbols adjacent to them either transformed into Wilds or destroyed. 1-3 Wilds can be revealed per cluster, with 3-9 Wilds in total
• Avalanche - 2 symbol types are selected randomly, all instances of those symbols on the grid are removed. 3-7 Wilds appear where symbols were removed
• Blizzard - 2-5 symbols in the pattern formed can transform into Wilds.

Whilst there is no main bonus feature as such on this slot, there are a lot of unique features. During play, the key aims are to collect many successive wins to fill up the collection meter, create lots of Ice Frames, and hopefully multiplier values on these frames.

Finally reaching the Dragon Blast feature (with Overcharged extra symbols) and hoping for a large stack of connected wilds on the grid with multipliers in play and hopefully come premium connected symbols.

While this sounds confusing, the gameplay is quite simple once you understand the Ice Frames, Multipliers and Collection Meter and how they all interact.

Collection Meter

The Collection Meter is a key feature to the Legend of the Ice Dragon slot, it stores up all of the symbols that have been collected from wins, at certain colour coded thresholds 20, 40, 60, 80 symbols will unleash the most powerful special features on this slot.

These features all help to create further wins and Ice frames, fill up the meter further with the aim of reaching the most powerful Dragon Blast feature at the end.
