Potioneering - Alchemy Subclasses

Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

Do you think we need a quick way to brew potions?

The game allows for many iterations of heroes, but if you as a player or DM have ever tried to bring alchemy and potion-making into the game, you may have, like me and my players, found that to be restrictive and not really applicable to the pace of life for any adventurer.

Many of my players have tried to dabble into potion-making, but after finding any rules for it unclear and confusing, if they didn't have access to the Dungeon Masters' Guide, they all found it more like an obstacle to the relatively simple and practical goals they had in mind.

This is the gap that these thematic subclass options seek to cover.

The Potioneer treats potions as a tool as versatile as spellcasting, and provides players with a way to access them regularly, and allow their potions to scale as they gain levels.

This theme gives subclass options to the fighter, who most high-level players quickly lose interest in. It gives them a complex repertoire of combinations of effects to mix and match in battle or out of it.

The ranger gets the most recipes, a versatility in having the most brews available to them, and the ability to timely supply potions to those who need them.

The rogue utilizes their mobility to supply potions to others around them, and allows a completely unique playstyle, besides just rolling attacks. Positioning now matters more and the benefits one can gain increase further.

I know the artificer exists, but in my experience players usually want potion making as a side-option, to allow them versatility whie they progress in their main practice.

These subclasses were tested with very pleasing results.
