Malta launched the Malta Residence and Visa Programme in 2015. Through this programme non EU/EEA/Swiss nationals, who satisfy the conditions imposed under this programme, have the opportunity to reside indefinitely in Malta and therefore also travel and move freely within the Schengen Area.

Salient Provisions:

• The Individual must be at least 18 years of age and meets the application requirements
• The individual must be in possession of sickness insurance in respect of all risks across the whole of the European Union normally covered for Maltese nationals for himself and his dependants
• The individual must commit to a qualifying investment having an initial value of €250,000 for a minimum period of 5 years from the date of issue of the residence certificate
• The individual must commit to hold a qualifying property in Malta for a minimum period of 5 years from the date of issue of the residence certificate

-The value of the qualifying property, if owned, must be of no less than €320,000 if situated in

Malta or no less than €270,000 if situated in Gozo or in the south of Malta

The value of the qualifying property, if rented, must be of no less than €12,000 per annum if situated in Malta or no less than €10,000 if situated in Gozo or in the south of Malta

• The individual must commit to pay a one-time contribution of €30,000 to the authorities
• The individual must have either an annual income of not less than €100,000 arising outside Malta or must have in his possession a capital of not less than €500,000
• The individual must satisfy due diligence requirements

Dependants of the main applicant in the direct line ( including ascendants and children up to 26 years of age) may also benefit from the programme. Following the death of the main applicant, Identity Malta may issue the certificate of residence to a dependants of the deceased beneficiary.
