Microsoft Doesn’t Want To Make An ‘Xbox One And A Half’

There have been a lot of rumors recently that Microsoft might be looking at the possibility of making some changes to the Xbox One’s internal hardware and launching a new version of its gaming console. The company has shot down that assumption for the time being even if it won’t completely rule out the idea of a mid-life upgrade. One thing that Xbox boss Phil Spencer made clear is that Microsoft doesn’t want to make an “Xbox One and a half.”

Spencer made these comments at a press conference after Microsoft’s Build conference. Someone asked Spencer if Microsoft would follow Sony if the company came out with the 4K Playstation 4, also referred to as the PlayStation 4.5.

Spencer responded that he doesn’t know if this console is being made by Sony or not, the company hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but even if it does arrive he doesn’t appear to be very enthusiastic about the possibility of Microsoft following suit.

“I’m not a big fan of Xbox One and a half,” Spencer said, adding that if the company is to move forward on the console he wants it to be in big numbers. “If we’re going to go forward with anything, I want it to be a really substantial change for people–an upgrade.”

On the other hand, rumors and reports are growing that Sony is indeed working on a 4K-compatible variant of the PlayStation 4. The 4K PlayStation 4 is currently expected to be launched before the PlayStation VR is due to arrive in October this year.
