Google Preparing For Allo Shutdown In Latest APK Teardown

The other day Google confirmed that come 2019, they will be shutting its Allo messaging app down. Now according to a teardown of the Allo APK by  9to5Google, it seems that Google is already taking steps to complete the shutdown by introducing features to the app that will let users save their chats.

In the teardown, they discovered a new menu item in the Settings called “Chat backup”. As its name implies, this will let users backup their chat histories if they’re so inclined. Users will also be given the option to export their messages from chats in the form of a CSV file, and also be able to export their photos and videos in a ZIP file.

So in case you’ve had some wonderful memories using Google’s Allo services, these features will let you save that to your computer. The Apk Teardown also revealed that Google has a “We’re saying goodbye” notice that will inform users who didn’t already know that the app will be shutting down.

Allo is expected to come to an end in March 2019, so there are still quite a few more months to go so you don’t need to rush to export your histories just yet. However if you need to start looking for a new messaging app, we suppose now’s as good a time as any to do so.
