Instagram has a feature that shows a blue tick next to the user’s account to indicate that they have been “verified”. This is usually given to celebrities and brands to indicate that these accounts are indeed who they say they are, but exactly how Instagram decides who to give the verification badge to has never been quite clear.
This means that you could be running a legit business or a profile to promote your work but because you aren’t verified, you could be losing potential customers as a result. The good news is that this has changed as Instagram has since announced that they will be rolling out a new feature that will allow users to request for verification.
Now as Instagram points out, requesting for verification does not guarantee that you will get verified. However the upside is that it appears that there will now be a formal way to request for verification, in which your account will be reviewed to see if you meet the guidelines, so if you are who you say you are and have a legit reason to be verified, it shouldn’t be a problem.
