Samsung’s Foldable Smartphone Now Rumored For 2019 Launch

We’ve known for a while that Samsung has a Foldable phone in the works, but exactly when will it be launched is anyone’s guess. A rumor from last year suggested that it could launch this year, but now a report from The Investor has revealed that the launch of the phone could take place in 2019 instead.

According to the report, Samsung has apparently informed their suppliers that they should start getting ready to supply the necessary components starting from November this year. Also because the phone apparently takes three months to assemble, it might only be revealed next year at MWC 2019.

The report also seems to be in line with an earlier rumor which indicated that the upcoming Foldable Smartphone will be a limited run device, in which Samsung is only aiming to ship about 300,000-500,000 units first to gauge the phone’s marketability. This is versus the 50 million or so units that Samsung typically ships for its flagship handsets.

As for the design, the current prototype uses three 3.5-inch screens, with one on the outside, and two on the inside which when unfolded will yield a 7-inch display. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but here’s hoping that all that waiting will be worth it.
