Facebook Reportedly Developing Slack-Like Messenger For High Schools

facebook logoSo we know that Facebook has a Messenger designed for kids but apparently their interest in developing more products for kids has not ended there. According to a report from TNW, it seems that the social network is trialing out High School Networks for Messenger, which apparently is a Slack-like communications platform designed for high schools.

The idea behind it is that it will allow high school students to connect with other students in the same school and/or taking the same classes as them. This means that users will be able to discuss classes and assignments, similar to what apps such as Slack already offer to users in the work space.

It was not mentioned as to when the feature would be launched but as TNW points out, the feature is currently hidden which means that Facebook isn’t quite ready for it to go live just yet, although there are reports that the feature is already being tested by some. While it is an interesting idea, Facebook’s recent data privacy scandal could impede the feature’s launch and adoption.

After all these are high school students we are talking about, which means that schools and parents might be wary about Facebook trying to get kids to use more of its services. Either way we’ll have to wait and see but in the meantime what do you guys think? Is this a feature you think high school kids might be interested in?
