Nintendo Gold Points Can Soon Be Used For Nintendo Switch Game Discounts

Nintendo today announced that it’s going to release an update for the My Nintendo service in the near future. It launched My Nintendo back in 2016 to provide users with in-app items, rewards, discounts, and more. The upcoming change is going to reward Nintendo Switch owners in a new way by allowing them to use their Nintendo Gold Points for discounts on Switch games in the Nintendo eShop.

Starting early next month, users will be able to spend any Gold Points that they have collected in My Nintendo when purchasing new software for Nintendo Switch from the eShop on their device or via the company’s website.

The remaining balance can then be paid with Nintendo eShop funds or with any other payment method that’s available in the Nintendo eShop. Gold Points remain valid until the last day of the month in the following calendar year once earned, any points earned in March 2017 remain valid until the end of March this year, for example.

The company has priced each Gold Point at one UK pence which means that users will need a lot of points to get any substantial discounts. A £40 game yields 200 Gold Points which are worth £2. The ability to cash in these points will go live for users in the United Kingdom and Europe next month. The company is yet to confirm if it’s going to expand this to the United States as well.
