Patreon Launches Its Own Snapchat-like Stories Feature

When Snapchat launched, it certainly changed the way that we saw messaging. It also changed the way we interacted on social media through features like Stories. Ultimately this resulted in other social networks to “copy” some of Snapchat’s features and rebrand it as their own, and Patreon is the latest to do so.

In a update to the app, Patreon is adding a new feature called “Patreon Lens” which basically lets creators share progress updates through Snapchat-like Stories. These Stories, just like Snapchat and Instagram, will last for 24 hours before they disappear and has been designed for creators to give their backers a behind-the-scenes look or provide updates in an easier way than recording a formal video.

For those unfamiliar with Patreon, this is a funding service of sorts where users can pledge monthly contributions to a creator. For example many YouTubers are starting to use Patreon as an alternative means for revenue, where alongside YouTube ad money, they can also make money through monthly contributions by their followers.

In return creators usually provide their backers with certain exclusives, such as behind-the-scenes looks, videos that aren’t uploaded or shared anywhere else except for Patreon subscribers, and so on. The update to the Patreon app is available on both iOS and Android, so head on over to the iTunes App Store or Google Play for the download.
