Samsung Galaxy S9 Active Could Be In The Works

So far for the past few years and without fail Samsung has released “Active” versions of its Galaxy S-series of flagship phones. For those unfamiliar, the “Active” series of phones is basically a more rugged version of the flagship, where it has been designed to be more tough when withstanding drops, bumps, water, and so on.

Last year we were treated to the Galaxy S8 Active, which means that unless Samsung changes up the way they are doing things, this year should bring about the Galaxy S9 Active as well. In fact this seems to have been hinted at according to a post on XDA, in which a list of codenames for unreleased Samsung Galaxy handsets has been revealed.

The list is rather extensive and we count over 20 devices on it. As expected the Galaxy S9, S9+, and the Galaxy Note 9 are part of that list, along with a device with the codename “astarqlite” which is apparently that of the Galaxy S9 Active. The report also points out how the device in question will run on a Snapdragon chipset, which presumably should be the Snapdragon 845, meaning that there might not be an Exynos equivalent of the Galaxy S9 Active.

In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but chances are the Galaxy S9 Active will not be announced alongside the Galaxy S9 and S9+, which Samsung has recently confirmed to take place on the 25th of February.
