Snapchat Will Remove Massive Border From Photos Shared From iOS

For some reason whenever you share photos from the iOS camera roll on Snapchat, the app will add a massive white border. This is presumably done to distinguish the photos taken within Snapchat from those taken by the iOS camera or any other camera app. However it’s not particularly attractive and can be annoying.

However the good news for Snapchat users is that it looks like they’ll be doing away with that feature. In a statement made to The Verge, Snapchat has confirmed the removal of the border, claiming that the decision they made was an aesthetic choice. Like we said, the borders were added to distinguish between photos, but it was also done to let users know if a photo uploaded might be “old” (meaning it wasn’t captured and shared in real-time).

However as The Verge points out, Snapchat’s competitors like Instagram are starting to become more liberal when it comes to sharing older photos on Stories. Previously Instagram only allowed users to upload photos or videos onto Stories that are less than 24 hours old, but now the company has opened it up to all photos and videos.

It seems that Snapchat is trying to do the same without the distinction, which is good news for those who don’t necessarily want to share real-time photos/videos all the time.
