Samsung Creates Innovative SmartSuit For Olympic Skaters

Samsung Benelux has unveiled an innovative Smartsuit that it has created for Dutch Olympic skaters that will be taking part in the upcoming Winter Games in South Korea. It has also developed a companion app for the suit which pulls in the data from all of the sensors that are integrated into the suit. The SmartSuit has been custom-made for Dutch short trackers Sjinkie Knegt and Suzanne Schulting. It’s meant to help them achieve their ideal skating position during training sessions.

The SmartSuit has five integrated sensors that help map the exact body posture and even calculates the distance from the skater’s hips to the ice. The data is transmitted in real-time to the national coach Jeroen Otter’s device.

If the data shows that the skater’s body position is not optimal, the coach can send a vibration by just tapping a button in the app. The skater feels the vibration on their wrist and can then adjust their position.

Samsung Benelux has developed this SmartSuit as part of its sponsorship of the Dutch short trackers. They will be taking part in the 2018 Winter Games. The companion app for the coach’s device has been developed in collaboration with the Royal Dutch Skaters Association.

This is an entirely new way of sponsoring athletes, one that relies on advanced technology to help them get the most out of their training sessions.
