We have been hearing reports that Samsung is getting ready to launch a truly flexible/foldable smartphone in the form of the Samsung Galaxy X. In fact just last month, the handset in question was spotted on Samsung’s website which no doubt raised some eyebrows, but as it turns out this isn’t the Phone we were looking for.
According to a report from Mobielkopen (via PhoneArena), it seems that the Galaxy X SM-G888N0 is a Rugged Smartphone. This was actually confirmed by Samsung in their press release about installing LTE-R internet in South Korea’s high-speed trains. “Samsung has provided its radio access network operating in 700 MHz, a global band for LTE-based Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR), a dedicated core network including EPC, IMS and PTT servers deployed in two control centers, as well as rugged smartphones (SM-G888N0) for professionals.” (emphasis by us)
Unfortunately details about the phone are unknown at this point in time, but Samsung has pretty much confirmed that this is a rugged handset aimed at professionals, as opposed to the Flexible Phone that we have been hearing about. We’re not sure if Samsung plans on using the Galaxy X moniker the phone or if it could still be used for the flexible phone, but we know that the company had previously filed for a trademark for it.
