We have heard of how there are some hotels in some parts of the world where they are testing out features where guests can check themselves into their room using their phone, which in turn also acts as a key. It turns out that Car Rental company Avis is also interested in similar tech that can be applied to rental cars.
According to its press release (via Roadshow), Avis has teamed up with Continental where they will be applying Continental’s Key-as-a-Service (KaaS) technology to some of its rental cars. The test will be kicking off in Kansas City where according to Larry De Shon, president and chief executive officer, Avis Budget Group, it will help lay the foundation for a potential future involving keyless car rental.
De Shon was quoted as saying, “Our partnership with Continental helps us deliver the next generation of mobility solutions and lays the foundation for entirely keyless car rental. Keyless car rental not only offers customers the ultimate in convenience and personalization, but it also enables us to accelerate our offerings into new markets as we continue to innovate the overall car rental experience.”
