We’ll admit that while TVs have come a long way in being able to offer better color reproduction, clarity, resolution, and size, sometimes it’s hard to beat the experience you get when you go to a cinema. This is where virtual reality (VR) comes in, where it can offer users an immersive experience without leaving their home.
Now VR cinemas aren’t new and we have seen several concepts launched before, so it really doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that Paramount Pictures has announced plans for their own VR Movie Theater. The company will be teaming up with Bigscreen to create a VR movie theater, where users can experience pretty much every aspect of going to a theater in person.
This includes walking into a movie theater, going to your seat, and even watching trailers that are typically played before a movie starts, and also being able to chat with the person seated next to you. This is versus some of the existing VR experiences which basically just puts you in a seat and the movie plays.
This experience is expected to kick off on the 3rd of December where if you own a VR headset (it seems that any brand will do), you can head on over to Bigscreen’s website and sign up and be able to watch Top Gun 3D for free. No doubt that this is a trial of sorts where Paramount is trying to gauge how such an experience will be like.
