James Cameron’s Terminator movie franchise is one of the classics in movie history, but it has also served as a rather poignant reminder to those in the tech industry that what seems like a fictional future could come true if we are not careful. While we wait and see whether or not a Skynet future is in the cards, until then we could be getting a reboot of the franchise.
In a recent interview with News.com.au, Cameron was asked about the franchise’s future, and whether or not it might have already run its course. According to Cameron, he believes that modern technology is starting to catch up to what was considered to be futuristic back then, and because of that perhaps it could be time to reinvent the franchise.
Cameron was quoted as saying, “I am in discussions with David Ellison, who is the current rights holder globally for the Terminator franchise and the rights in the U.S. market revert to me under U.S. copyright law in a year and a half so he and I are talking about what we can do. Right now we are leaning toward doing a three-film arc and reinventing it.”
