Apple’s Mac Pro Trademark Update Hints At Augmented Reality Plans

Apple’s interest in augmented reality (AR) is well known and hardly a secret, with the company’s CEO heaping praises on the technology, and let’s not forget the company’s recent hire also has background in the tech. Now it seems that thanks to a recent update to its Mac Pro Trademark, Apple has hinted at possible AR plans for the future.

Spotted by the folks at Patently Apple, Apple’s update to the Mac Pro trademark in Hong Kong reads, “augmented reality displays, goggles, controllers, and headsets; 3D spectacles”. As pointed out by AppleInsider, trademark registrations demand that information about a product covers not only what it can do now, but what it could do in the future. However as they also point out, the fact that it is so comprehensive could also be just Apple’s way of covering their bases should a lawsuit arise in the future.

That being said, we know that Apple is working on revamping the Mac Pro lineup. The company recently confirmed that they are “rethinking” the Mac Pro, but exactly what will this entail remains to be seen. We’re not sure how AR would work on a desktop computer like the Mac Pro, but like we said Apple’s interest in the technology has been pretty well-established and we’ll just have to wait and see.
