Google introduced Assistant late last year and initially kept it exclusive to its Pixel smartphones. The company later confirmed that it would release Assistant to compatible Android smartphones as well. It released Assistant for devices running Android 6.0 and above a couple of weeks ago but so far the virtual assistant has only landed on smartphones. Are tablets not going to get it?
That’s a question that many started asking once Assistant was rolled out for Android devices running Marshmallow and up. The company’s official blog post on the matter didn’t say anything about tablets and it was just assumed that perhaps they would be covered as well.
As it turns out, that’s not going to be the case. Google has confirmed to the folks at AndroidPolice that Android-powered tablets are not going to get Assistant at this point in time.
“The Assistant will be available on Android Marshmallow and Nougat phones with Google Play Services, this does not include tablets,” it confirmed.
