Moto G5 Plus Won’t Be Shipped With Google Assistant (For Now)

After enjoying several months of exclusivity on Google’s Pixel phones, Google announced at MWC 2017 last month that Google Assistant would finally be making its way to non-Pixel handsets. In fact at the same event, Motorola’s Moto G5 and G5 Plus handsets were announced and that they would also be coming with Google Assistant on board.

Unfortunately it seems that will no longer be the case, or at least that will no longer be the case for now. According to reports, it seems that Google Assistant will not be shipped on the Moto G5 Plus, but instead the feature is expected to arrive on the phone at a later date via an update. We’re not sure when exactly that update will be rolled out, but it’s something to keep in mind if you buy the phone and are wondering where the feature went.

According to a statement issued by Lenovo in an email sent to Gadgets 360, it reads, “The Moto G5 Plus will support Google Assistant. But it will not come preloaded with the Assistant as this will be a Play Store update and will be rolled out by Google.” We’re not sure what’s with the delay but we guess at the very least Lenovo/Google are not reneging on their promise to bring the feature onto the handset.
